2017 Summer Reading Program

During the first week of June we will waive any Morris library fines for patrons 17 years of age or younger. (This does not include any fines from other libraries or lost or damaged books.)
Come in and check out books all summer long. Reading logs are available for younger students to keep track of time spent reading. Older students may choose a book mark to keep track of the book titles read. (Books can be traditional print books, audio, and e-books). Bring in your completed book mark or reading log and choose a paperback book to keep. Special drawings for additional prizes will be held at the end of our summer program. Bring your logs or bookmarks in by July 29th.

CLIMB Theatre The Ant and the Grasshopper- Tuesday, June 13, 4 pm
We kickoff our special entertainment this summer with Aesop’s famous fable, The Ant and the Grasshopper. This interactive play is perfect for kids of all ages, combining the classic fable’s characters with fun games and interactive play. This program will teach kids of all ages, that anything is possible when we work together.
This event is sponsored by the Morris Friends of the Public Library Association.
Ralph’s World- Tuesday, June 27, 10:30 am
Grammy-nominated children’s musician Ralph Covert-of “Ralph’s World” fame- shares his humorous and eclectic original songs in a solo acoustic, high-energy concert for all ages.
Dazzling Dave- Yo Yo Master”-Thursday, July 13, 4 pm
Join Dave, a National Yo Yo Master performer. This program will stress the fun and hard work that goes into learning a skill like how to yo-yo.
Brodini-Thursday, July 20, 4 pm
Enjoy comedy and magic in this fun show for kids and families as we wrap up our Summer Reading Program.
Ralph’s World, Dazzling Dave, and Brodini are sponsored by the Morris Public Library and Viking Library System. These projects were funded in part or in whole with monies from Minnesota’s Art and Cultural Heritage fund.
Story time will continue to be offered each week on Thursdays at 10:30 am. We have a great line up of community members leading our story time this summer.

Creative Writing Club with Chrissy Kolaya
Fridays, June 23, 30, July 14, 21, 28, 10 - 11 am
We'll be meeting once a week to write together, share our own work, and share other writing that inspires us. Come join us!
No need to sign up-- just show up!
What to bring: Something to write with (pen, pencil, old timey feather and pot of ink...)
and something to write on (journal, paper, papyrus, clay tablet, whatever you like!)

Grades: Third and up. Join Anne and read some fantastic graphic novels and comics this summer! Please bring your own lunch. No cost but please preregister.
Friday Flicks, 2 pm, Friday, June 9, 16, 23, July 7 & 21
These movies are geared for elementary age students and younger with parent chaperones.
No cost & No pre-registrations for all movies. Call the library for specific movie titles. Popcorn and drinks sponsored by the Morris Friends of the Public Library.
Super Science Adventures, Mondays 1:00 – 4:00 pm
The Morris Public Library and Stevens County Extension are teaming up to offer these programs for students in Grades 3 – 6th.
Extreme Engineering, July 10th: Engineering is so much fun! Spend the afternoon completing engineering challenges and creating your own designs.
Electrifying Electricity, July 17: Learn about electricity and the creative ways we can create energy!
Mad Scientists, July 24: Join us for sticky, bubbly and wacky science experiments! We will learn about fun science that we can experience every day.
No cost but please preregister at the library.

Family Fun Events
The whole family is invited to join us for these events on Wednesday evenings. All events will be held from 6:30 to 8 pm except for the first event which will be held with the Local Flavors event at the library from 3:30 – 6 pm. No cost & no preregistration is required. Come for one or we hope you come for all! Treats will be sponsored by Common Cup Coffee House, Morris Friends of the Public Library, Meadowland Market, and McDonalds.

Come Taste the Power of Produce!
Starting June 15th, the Morris Area Farmers Market returns to the library square on Thursdays from 3 – 6 pm. Free Power of Produce activities will return for children as well. Kids and adults can explore the possibilities of what to do with these foods by attending the Food Literacy Program in the library. Each week there will be demonstrations and activities related to food that are free and open to the public. Come and learn about locally produced foods, and enjoy healthy eating at its freshest! This summer’s sponsors are the Stevens Community Medical Center and Farmers Market.

TumbleBooks - audio, animated e-books for children intended for Morris Public Library card-holders.
What Resources/Services does the library have for children & families?
Books- The library has thousands of books to choose from including picture books, easy readers, chapter books, young adult fiction, series fiction, non-fiction, and e-books for all ages.
Bilingual Books- We have a section of easy reader and picture bilingual books as well as a small collection of adult & youth Spanish books.
Board Books- The library’s board books are a great choice for toddlers.
Audio Books- The library has audio books for all ages. We also have some children’s books with CD sets which can be checked out or listened to at our “Listening Center”.
Movies- We have a large collection of children’s movies. All movies must be checked out on an adult’s card. Check out is one week.
TumbleBooks- An online collection of audio, animated e-books for children is available. Visit the “For Kids” section of our website to access.
Computers- The children’s area of the library has a computer for children with games on it. The library has 6 public computers with internet access; laptops; and wireless is available.
Reference- Librarians can help you and your child find books to read or information for homework.
Tours- Contact us if your group would like a tour.
"Ready to Learn" Backpacks
We will be hosting some of the Elbow Lake Library "Ready to Learn" back packs at the Morris Public Library. (Elbow Lake is running out of storage room and sharing these with us.) They are available to check out for 3 weeks. After a length time we will change them out for some different ones. The titles we have are:
Going to Bed, All About Teeth, Art
Plus remember we have the Stevens Community Biting Kit (Helpful resources to help your child learn NOT to bite).... AND "Cows Vacation Scrapbook" kit available for check out as well.
Story time continues throughout the school year and into the summer on Thursday mornings that the library is open at 10:30 am. UMM TREC students lead story time during the school year. There is no story time during the month of August.
